Dr. Jonakin is designated by the Federal Aviation Administration as an Aviation Medical Examiner (AME). He is certified to perform class 2 and class 3 medical certification examinations for student pilots and pilots.

As you might gather from the art work in our office, Dr. Jonakin has a keen interest in aviation, particularly the aircraft of World War II. Prints signed by Chuck Yeager, Jimmy Doolittle, Robert Morgan (pilot of the Memphis Belle), several members of the American Volunteer Group (Flying Tigers), and others are on display in our clinical area. Be sure to allow a little extra time to review the art work.

When you come for your flight physical, we ask that you arrive at least 20-25 minutes early. The government forms can be a bit tedious and must be totally completed by the airman before the examination can begin. Be sure to bring your drivers license or other government issued photo ID. Also bring any correspondence you have received from the FAA. Don't forget your glasses, if you need them to pass the eye exam!

Dr. Jonakin will also probably want to talk flying with you. Unlike the picture to the right, Dr. Jonakin usually flies N150 XP, affectionately known as “X-Ray Papa”. X-Ray Papa started life as a standard 1977 Cessna 150M, but with a change to a 150 HP Lycoming O-320 E2D, she has considerably more get up and go than a standard 150. Dr. Jonakin particularly likes to fly into the turf strips along Idaho’s rivers and mountains.
